Block Internet Access?
I have a client that has several public Windows XP machines at his office (by public I mean that any employee can use them). Two of the machines have Antivirus software and the other three don't, so he doesn't want the three that don't have Antivirus to have Internet access, but they still need to be able to access the server on the network.
I am about to take these 5 machines and connect them to a Verizon DSL modem/router, but I want to know the best way to prohibit Internet access on the 3 machines without Antivirus software without affecting their ability to connect to other machines and devices on the network. I have not yet logged into the Verizon router, so I don't know what features it has. All I know is that it is a Netopia modem/router and it doesn't seem to support wireless encryption higher than 128-bit WEP!
Let me know what you think. TIA!
Re: Block Internet Access?
What I would do is get the Mac Address for all the computer.
In MOST routers you can program to give internet access to certain MAC addresses or block certain MAC addresses.
That way you know they will not be trying to get them on when your not looking.
