HP Printer networking Issue

HP Printer networking Issue

Postby T-Man1984 » Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:30 pm

I just installed a new computer at my workplace. We have a network with a name of Post. All the computers are on a LAN with an address of 192.168.254.XXX.

The new machine is windows 7 Professional. I have it setup and the printer shared. When I try to connect with an XP machine by going, start, \\192.168.254.xxx I see the printer, and I click connect. It shows up in my printer folder, but when I try and print it crashes explorer.

So I downloaded the full driver package from HP and installed it locally using an IP port. It tried again to print with the new setup. Now it goes to the printer queue and eventually errors out saying something about a downlevel document.

What am I doing wrong? I've never had this much trouble?!

This printer is hooked to a windows 7 machine. We have a network printer, but it's in another room.

You will more than likely have problems with this printer being connected to a Win7 machine. There are sharing issues with XP and Win7 and especially with printer drivers. You did good by downloading the drivers but when printing using TCPIP, that should not work. You can try adding the shared printer like normal but use the drivers that you downloaded.

I managed to get the printer working on ALL machines (xp) except the one I needed it on.

After a couple more days I realized it was due to the fact that I had accidently named the new computer the same as the one I was trying to print from on the network. Changed the name on the new machine, and presto.. Win 7 and XP are friends!
