I was wondering if it's possible to use a printer server (wired or wireless) hooked up to a plain USB external hard drive to make it into a NAS device? I don't see why not.

If you are talking about the print servers that are single use boxes, in most instances it would not work because the print server uses printer communication protocols over the USB to communicate with the printer and would not support file transfers to a storage medium.
