How do I make USB drive bootable
I have a Sandisk 2 GB USB flash drive and I am trying to install/upgrade to the EFI bios which can apparently only be done via a USB drive. I have formatted it but it won't let me make it bootable drive during the format, that option is grayed out,
Any ideas

In your BIOS, you should have a setting to select the order of boot. If your system is new enough, you should have an option for USB. It should then recognize your flash file.

Re: How do I make USB drive bootable
I went into the bios and made the USB drive the first boot device after copying the bios and the bios upgrade tool to the USB drive, but when I reboot it tells me to remove drive or media etc and restart, it is like it is not able to use it

Re: How do I make USB drive bootable
On the ASUS P5QC board (main rig) I flashed my BIOS using a flash drive w/ the update app included in it (read manual for spacifics).
Plugged in the flash drive & pressed the F8 key (F9 for Dell & others) during the restart POST & chose the flash drive from the list, hit enter & away she went loading the utility to flash the BIOS.
So simple I was amazed.
Sadly the board I have has some other problems that I blame on the apps ASUS installs = Express Gate.

Re: How do I make USB drive bootable
My ASUS let's me browse the root of my hard drive for BIOS Images
Thats why I'm not sure why it needs to be bootable, but then again I'm not use to EFI hardware so that could be why

Re: How do I make USB drive bootable
this is suppose to update my bios from the original Legacy Bios to the new EFI Bios via the included EFI update tool, but I can't get it to work, oh well so much for this experiment (-:
As for Express Gate, that doesn't have to be used JD, I have had mine both ways, where is starts when booting or I have had it where it doesn't
You can disable it in Bios under tools menu

You could try this
How to Create a bootable USB Memory Key
Then copy over the EFI File and utility and boot from it

Re: How do I make USB drive bootable
Thanks Daniel,
I do have EG disabled in the BIOS but am still blamimg it for not letting the rig see my server to do a restore.
None of the other rigs have this problem, it all started when I installed this board on this rig.
