I've found something weird in the BCD. I used DualBootPro to delete the XP entry since it wasn't working anyway. Then DualBootPro showed I only had the Windows 7 O/S. I then ran BCDEDIT /ENUM and here's the result:
Windows Boot Manager
--------------------
identifier {bootmgr}
device partition=C:
description Windows Boot Manager
locale en-US
inherit {globalsettings}
default {current}
resumeobject {3579ecb0-1405-11df-9224-dd17f605a0c0}
displayorder {3579ecb6-1405-11df-9224-dd17f605a0c0}
{current}
toolsdisplayorder {memdiag}
timeout 3

Real-mode Boot Sector
---------------------
identifier {3579ecb6-1405-11df-9224-dd17f605a0c0}
device partition=G:
path \NTLDR
description Windows XP

Windows Boot Loader
-------------------
identifier {current}
device partition=C:
path \Windows\system32\winload.exe
description Windows 7
locale en-US
inherit {bootloadersettings}
recoverysequence {3579ecb2-1405-11df-9224-dd17f605a0c0}
recoveryenabled Yes
osdevice partition=C:
systemroot \Windows
resumeobject {3579ecb0-1405-11df-9224-dd17f605a0c0}
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Obviously, the Windows XP entry that shows up when I restart the system must be coming from this "Real-mode Boot Sector" entry. DualBootPro doesn't report anything on this so I don't know how I'm supposed to get rid of this entry. Just to be sure this was an unusual entry I ran BCDEDIT /ENUM on 3 other systems having dual boot capability. Even though they're Vista and XP rather than 7 and XP I think the boot information should still be about the same. None of the 3 systems had an entry called "Real-mode Boot Sector". Any suggestions on how to get rid of this entry on my system or what it's there for?

I FIXED IT! Since the error was "couldn't find NTLDR" I decided to see what would happen if I put NTLDR in the root directory of the XP O/S on the G: drive. I copied it from the C: drive (7 O/S) and then restarted the system. XP came up without a problem which was a suprise because I thought both NTDETECT.COM and boot.ini would be needed also but they weren't. I have no idea why it worked. P.S. - I was able to get rid of the "Real-mode boot sector" entry by using the other BCD editor. Once I did that and nothing changed, I kept trying other solutions until I hit on this one.
