can't see xp partition in vista dual boot
Hi,
Thank you for your help in advance.
I got a dual boot system. Vista in C:\ and XP in D:\ and i can boot up properly.
The problem is I can't locate D:\ partition in my vista. When i navigate to Disk Management, the XP partition is there but the disk letter has disappeared.
Booting into Xp partition, I can see vista and access vista partition and disk letter is fine as it should be in Disk Management.
Can anyone please help?

Re: can't see xp partition in vista dual boot
Thank you for quick reply.
When i right click the xp partition in disk management, and select change disk letter.
The error message says: 'The operation failed to complete because the Disk Managment console view is not up-to-date. Reafresh the view using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Managment console, then restart Disk Managment or restart the computer.
When i click retry management or rescan disk. Still not working. Please help? Thanks

I have Alcohol installed in my XP partition, but I have not used any mount drives in my xp partition.
I have recalled something. I tried to run Partition Magic in D: drive (xp partition) a few days ago.
When running PM, It says some errors in some partition and need to Fix. I just click OK.
Maybe it could be an issue that messed up my partition. Please help? Thanks.

Yes, PM can't support Vista. so i run it in xp partition. and I notice a warning as follows:
You cannot change a drive letter if the drive is either a system partition or a boot partition
Now, I can't change my driver letter for XP partiton and locate that partiton in My Computer. Any workaround for this situation?
Still need hlep!!Thanks.

I do not know since I have never used PM. I have heard on a many using it and things like this happen. My suggestion is throw PM in the trash and start over with good ole Diskpart that comes with Windows.

[Resolved]Re: can't see xp partition in vista dual boot
This issue has been resolved by Acornis Disk Director Suite.
Run the program, click the lost partition (D:), and press advance tap in the left pane and choose "convert"
When the prompt winodw appears, Reset logical to primary or vice versa (if you have a different scenario, but the same case). Press OK.
Click the Flag icon to commint the mission in the upper hand left. it will run 15 minutes. When done, reboot your pc.
Then go to Disk Management, Right click D partition and select change drive letter and path, and the system displays D on it. Just click OK to proceed.
The Disk Management autorun should run simutaneously. The lost partition shows up eventually. Thanks for everything.
Side note: I have tried TestDisk, it tells space conflict between the following partitions. i can't find any resources to deal with it. TestDisk might be working, but just don't know how.

Re: can't see xp partition in vista dual boot
logical to primary is correct. OSs do not like to be installed on logical drives.
