I7 Tripple channel question

I7 Tripple channel question

Postby kuzurame » Sun Jan 17, 2010 12:16 am

I currently have the I7 920 with the EVGA standard X58 and I was wondering can I throw an old dual channel ddr3 memory kit onto the board in addition to the triple channel thats on there right now?

If your board will work with either that's fine...check out the Qualified Vendor List for the RAM your board will work with. Both sets of RAM will default to the speed of the slowest.

Yeah, it's seldom a good idea to mix and match RAM.

I don't seem to find an EVGA Standard X58 motherboard model. If you give me the exact model number, I'll see what I can find about RAM placement on it.

If you have triple channel memory already in and you start to throw mixmatch ram, you can actually slow down your triple channel ram. The best thing to do is to not throw uneven sticks of ram in. Taht board was made to run 3 sticks ata a time.
