Using DiskPart on the Windows 7 DVD

This is very interesting, promising work Graham
Personally, I have as a matter of preference, ever since Longhorn 4074 was the latest build, tried to keep my boot drive separate from my system drives in order to keep the boot environment as clean as possible as well as to minimise any risk of OS corruption between Windows versions, particularly when installing Beta versions -- though it has to be said that this should not be much concern at all on a normal, dedicated single-boot, Windows machine.
The recovery partition looks very interesting, particularly if one could use a Windows setup with all software installed for one's "factory" version

OK so the one thing I learned about trying to create a recovery partition with DiskPart is...don't try if you don't know anything about GPT disks whatever they are. My entire system became unbootable and it wasn't till I blanked the drive I was working on, after trying to run a startup repair or the command prompt and unplugging various drives to do so, that I was able to boot again. Not nice only seeing error messages and not being able to get to any repair tool at all.

When trying to delete a partition I get
Virtual disk service error:
Cannot delete a protected partition without the force protected parameter set
I have attempted a clean install of win 7 64
I am having many bsod's
I want to start again clean.
The current partitions are shown as
partition 1 System 100mb
partition 2 reserved 128mb
partition3 primary 297gb
What should I do?
Sony vaio z 570 n/b 320gb 3 gbram

Re: Using DiskPart on the Windows 7 DVD
Which partitions are you wanting to delete? When you're in diskpart type help for a list a commands or type force /? for what you need to do to add that parameter. I'm not able to boot to my DVD now so I think those commands will give you some answers.
Have you created backup/restore DVD's for your system? This is always recommended for OEM systems.

Re: Using DiskPart on the Windows 7 DVD
Thanks for your reply I have my original vista recovery disks and I think I may try to go back to them as I am probably close to being unable to boot as even the setup disk forces a renboot that ends in a blue screen now,
I should have read your second post more carefully!!
