Haha.

So, as the entire web seems to be talking about at the moment, Gmail is down. But what’s amazing is the volume of people talking about it. When I first noticed it being down, I did a Twitter search and just minutes later there were over 10,000 new results. A couple minutes later, there were over 20,000.

It took a few minutes for it to show up on Trending Topics, but now it’s there, but it was giving Twitter Search fits. For a while, if you clicked on “Gmail” in Trending Topics, you would have seen “No results for [blank]” returned. If you hit it again, it kept stacking the messages on top of one another (pictured below).

It looks like Twitter has resolved the issue, and made a strong comeback, but the influx of tweets continues to be amazing. This could be a good test for Twitter to see if it can stay up and everyone bitches about one of the most popular web services on the planet being down. And remember, this test comes before that new datacenter is in operation.

They're making a great statement for moving your business onto their hosted email service... People may not like Microsoft and the fact that their free email has no POP/SMTP access, but I haven't had it go down to my knowledge since I've had my account, which has been 3-4 years now.

I mainly use Yahoo mail and Mail.com. But PROnet mail uses GMail.

Yep I've moved all my business email to GMail, plus I have a regular gmail.com account for all my Google services. It really was interesting to see just how many people were affected by this.

What really screwed me up is that it somehow "unregistered" me on my phone. I get my PROmail on my pocket PC through AT&T's "Xpress Mail," which gives me one-click access to my mail. Somehow it unregistered me and I couldn't get it back no matter how many times I tried. I even manually entered all the POP settings and it didn't work. Finally, this morning, it re-registered itself automatically.

Like John, all my business-related email goes to my PROmail account. I also have a regular GMail which I use to get Google Alerts.

My phone also connects automatically to my Hotmail account so I get access to both, plus Outlook if I use that (which I don't).
