Computer won't POST on cold boot

Computer won't POST on cold boot

Postby Stukindaguy » Fri Aug 21, 2009 6:09 pm

Well, this isn't really a major problem, just an annoying one. When my computer is cold (ie: sitting for a while off) it just won't POST, the asus express gate dialog comes up, then goes away after the countdown, and then the POST screen does come up, it'll just hang there indefinitely. However, resetting it, or turning it off then on fixes it. PS: I know it's not an overtemp problem on boot, she runs nice and cool.

System specs are in my signature, and maybe my power supply needs mentioning too, it's an Ultra X3 1000W.

Thanks in advance, you guys are great:)

Clear the CMOS first

if that does not help

Then look into flashing the BIOS

Warning, when flashing, there is alwasy a chance of looseing data

Hey, thanks for the reply, clearing CMOS didn't help, and I'd rather not flash the BIOS unless necessary. Besides, could it help to flash the same version, I'm currently using a modified version of the Asus BIOS, so there's no other version I can flash.

I took off the Boot Logo option so I could see where it locks up at, and it seems to halt when auto-detecting my readyboost USB drive, could this be the sign of a failing USB drive?

that seems to fix it from locking up but POST on cold boot is still pretty slow (about 3x longer then normal). Could this just be a by-product of being cold (Ambient 22C on average), that doesn't seem too cold to me.

22C should not affect it.
