Firewalls for Windows 7 32-Bit and 64-Bit
Re: Firewalls for Windows 7 32-Bit and 64-Bit
I had Comodo Firewall running a while ago, then I decided I didn't need it. But it's free and it should work

It seems that you will need to wait for Service Pack 1, Graham. I think you should be able to install it by 2011.

Uh oh. I paid good money for CA Personal Firewall. It's great on Vista 64. I haven't tried it on W7 yet.

LMAO Joe
I was checking out the Windows Firewall earlier today and it's amazingly adjustable. Just look at some of the settings that it's possible to change. That's less than a quarter of them in the screenshot. I don't recommend anyone change the defaults until they're sure what the impact or results will be. There is the ability to go back to defaults though.

Wasn't there a study done when the two-way firewall was implemented in XP/Vista that showed that it performed as good as most 3rd-party solutions?

The firewall was implemented as one-way in XP, and only partially two-way in Vista -- IIRC the 2-way one in Vista was judged to be inferior to the 3rd party solutions ; of course that was in the Vista RTM version, and subsequent improvements were possibly implemented in SP1 & SP2
I know nothing specifically about the W7 Firewall, except that from Graham's screeny it looks better than the Vista version.
