This seems to be the current UK price.
It is the desktop PC applications that I am excited about
What about prices in your worlds?
TBH I find this very exciting technology, todays prices and specs are really irrelevant
it's where it's going that blows my socks off, I don't get out much :embarrassed:
Could you stack 'em like RAM?
I really must keep more up to date with stuff.
Thanks ALL for a great heads up.

BTW, Windows 7 has been designed with SSDs in mind so you might want to install the RC to really test it out properly. I'll wait 'til next year for the prices to come down and perhaps there will be a standard across the board too as all the maker's have their own controllers.

One should bear in mind that both the low-end cheap SSDs and the top capacity ones can have a very low write speed when writing large amounts of data (similar to issues with any cheap USB flash drives), so that it will still be some time before they will be comparably reliable to magnetic hard drives performance-wise.

Not just large amounts of data, but also a large number of small files. I backed up my 1GB microSD card from my Windows mobile phone onto my computer and it was backed up pretty quickly.

Well, later I restored the backup, from my computer to the 1GB microSD card. The backup contained about 75MB of data (Windows Live Search, Google Maps, and other programs with a lot of small files) and it took more than 30 minutes to perform the transfer! If my calculations are correct, that is an effective transfer rate of 333kbps! My upload speed on my Internet connection is about 4.5 times faster than that!
