WiFi Question

WiFi Question

Postby lowellabraham » Wed Mar 11, 2009 5:38 pm

Hey guys,

the church I go to, recently got the internet connection. They want me to setup wifi, but this way: whenever a client connects to the wifi - and the user opens up a browser, it should ask for a user name & password. So I am guessing the router should have a built in page that asks the users for their credentials. how do I go about accomplishing this? Does the router gets connected to a server? How does it work? I have seen this type of system at universities where they assign the students their own login/pwd so they can get on wifi from a browser. Any comments/suggestions/help very much appreciated!

i think i have to get some kind of wireless gateways?

I think that you need to have WPA(2) and a RADIUS server to do that. Basically, the router will poll the server for the login credentials to verify that the user is allowed to access it. I haven't done it personally though, so I don't know how difficult it would be to accomplish.

EDIT: Here is a guide on setting it up: http://wiki.freeradius.org/WPA_HOWTO
