Rebuilding my HTPC
Hey everyone. I am thinking about re-building my HTPC because it is not quite up to par to watch my Blu-Rays.
Right now I have an socket 939 AMD Athlon 64 4000+ with a GeForce 8500 GT 512MB and 2GB of Ram. I will not need to update the PSU, hard drives, sound card, cd-rom drives, case, etc. I doubt I will be able to re-use the ram, but if I can, that would be great. My memory is PC3200 DDR 400MHz .
I usually build AMDs but I am tempted to go with an Intel Core 2 Duo. I am not sure if I want to by the parts separate, in a bundle, or a barebone system. I would like to spend as little as possible but I have a few hundred I can spend. Anyone build something recently or have any good suggestions of which direction to head?
Re: Rebuilding my HTPC
depends on what u want to spend.
I just purchase a dual core for my Windows 7 for way less than $500.00

Ideally $300 or less but I am flexible.
I am running vista but not messing with Windows 7. What system did you end up picking up?

Like I said, it runs Win 7 real good for a base type system.

Got to looking at the thread, for that kind of money you are looking for a motherboard, CPU, and memory pretty much.
for $300.00 you can get a lot for that and the Dual and Quad cores blow AMD away right now.

I just recently built a Mini-ATX Phenom X4 AM2+ 9650............... w/8GB DDR1066 RAM and a 9800GTX.... it totally ROCKS!!! I can get max resolution and great gameplay in any PC game and I'm running dual boot x64 Vista Ultimate and x64 Windows 7 beta ATM......................
