Maybe that's what my 9800GTX needs is a kick in the #$$ O/C.............. :lol:

I don't think it came with any tools/software to do that though....... :question

You should have 'Precision' but I use RivaTuner as Precision is just a crippled version of Riva. You should just OC the shaders as the rest only increases heat but not for significant PPD gain. Watch the heat too as you know. Also check what fan speed is comfortable for your ears first. My GT sounds like jet at %100. :lol:

I'll keep that in mind............. :whistle I'm watching my daughter at gymnastics right now, but I downloaded the Riva and put it on my Live Mesh so I can get it at home. Yeah, I'm doing a little unsecure wireless "borrowing" ATM......... :embarrassed: but hey, I needed to check my email and stuff since it was a bit busy at work today

OK I don't know who you people are, but you got me. I kept referencing this PPD chart to buy some cards off eBay and a cheap base setup with 4 PCI-E slots. I have been folding at around 3-10k PPD with 3 machines for a few years now and keep upping the ante. I have a 9800 GTX+ ($126.98 shipped from Tiger Direct) sitting at UPS due to weather, and a 9800 GX2 coming from eBay ($232.70 shipped). More cards to follow, hope to add 1 GX2 every few weeks.

Cheap Folding base (borrow DVD drive for OS install & scavenge 500GB HD) -- $346 shipped from NewEgg. I got the motherboard open box. - It's going on a rack in the basement with my file server... open air cooling
* 1 x MSI K9A2 Platinum AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX ATX AMD Motherboard
* 1 x BFG Tech BFGR800WPSU 800W ATX 12V Ver.2.2/ EPS 12V Ver.2.91 SLI Ready Power Supply
* 1 x AMD Phenom 9600 Agena 2.3GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor Model HD960ZWCGDBOX
* 1 x G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ

Other systems:
Living Room Media PC (2-4k PPD) - i7 920 clocked to 3GhZ on water; the current GPU in it can't fold. Going to put a water cooled 280 or 295 in there some time.
File server (1-2k PPD) - (1) Xeon E5420 - the first GX2 will go in here.
Bedroom PC (4-6kPPD combined) - QX6700 and ATI 4870

Xeon's suck for folding... who knew!

Oh, also of note... I tracked the power usage not so scientifically by looking at the UPS watt meter for each system. All CPU's are SMP.
- Radeon 4870 512MB - 120w
- i7 920 @3GhZ - 75w
- QX6700 - 30W
- Xeon E5420 - 45W

Anyone have input? Maybe know where I can score some cheap cra.... err, shaders?

Welcome aboard RichMobile! ^*^ I'm not quite used to having totally new folk to this site for folding, so we must be doing something right as this is a relatively new forum(not site) with some old threads brought in.

Anyways, all I can say is that your PPD will go through the roof once you get your cards! That i7 is impressive for SMP as it doubles my Q6600 output! :drool: Too bad my mantra is 'affordable folding' though I could easily buy an i7 and a 260GTX or better right now but I'll wait for the prices to drop as they always do.;)

yeshuas(Dan) may have some input on where to purchase some more pipelines cheaply. :yesnod:

BTW, if you're not folding for anyone in particular you would be more than welcome to join our very modest but effective team 13790. :whistle :lol:

I just came to the realization I spent about $800 just to increase my folding PPD output, and my power bill.

Well, putting out 23k now with a 9800 GTX+ and 1 9800 GX2 added. The UPS man is coming with more stuff today... sigh.

Well, it's done. Roughly 35k PPD total. Still cant get an ATI card to work with the NVIDIA's together on XP PRO. Every site I found said it should work in XP but not vista.

I had to run some dedicated power since I fried a PSU and tripped a breaker the first time. I just made an "extension cord" from an unused dryer outlet and split it into 2 separate 15-amp circuits.

Image

That box fan is sitting in front now blowing air over the whole rig. The small fan is for use when I'm working on it. Even though it's in the basement and it stays pretty cool down there this thing puts out a bit of heat.

Imageshack links now...

OK so embedded images and image links don't work?

Hehehe, that's quite innovative! ^*^ You must have a small electrical panel then. Man, 35K PPD is really nice! ^*^ I'll have to be satisfied with my 10K PPD for now. Have to wait until prices come down on the newer stuff. :yesnod:

Hey, thanks for coming back and telling us your tale.:)

No... I just had a chest freezer, sump pump, and an arsenal of electronics on one 20 amp circuit. It didnt like getting another 6 amps sucked from it with the new folding rig.
