bad motherboard?

Re: bad motherboard?
Ok, got the new board, but it's sightly different than the old one. It didn't come with a manual, and I can't locate where the front speaker card readers hook up. There's only three cables and three places they fit on the MB, but it won't boot with them hooked up in any order. I unplug them all and it boots, so I guess he'll live without the front ports. Judging from the dust all up in there, I don't think he ever used them anyway, lol.
only other problem is that the case fan won't run. There are three fan plugins on this mb. The one by the CPU works fine, got the CPU fan running. But when I hook the case fan up to either of the other two, it doesn't run. If I hook it to the CPU fan spot, it works so I know its not the fan. He got this MB off ebay used, so I'm thinking it might not be 100% working.
What can I do about the case fan? nothing?
Re: bad motherboard?
This isn't working. I just hooked up a mouse, keyboard and monitor. the monitor stays blank and that's when I realized, there's no beep. When you turn on the pc, it's suppose to beep once for the all clear, right?
When I turn this one on, the PSU comes on, The CPU fan starts, the light on the CD-ROM flashes, and the front power light comes on. But the light on the monitor stays orange, not green if it was getting a signal.
No beep.
any clues?
Re: bad motherboard?
You should be able to get an adapter to hook the case fans up to the 4 plug connectors that normally connect to IDE harddrives, they sometimes come with the case or motherboard

Re: bad motherboard?
First of all I am really leery of used MB's and this one sounds like it may have several issues.
To be honest it sounds like some noob tried installing it without the standoffs, to keep it up off the case and shorted several things out.
Do you have a graphics card that you can put in temporarily to see if you can get video

Re: bad motherboard?
It suppose to be brand new, with a 14 day warranty. I've removed it from the case and rebuilt it on the table, with nothing pluged in and still no beep. its not posting. could it be a jumper/bios setting?
Re: bad motherboard?
Can you give me the Manufacturer and model of the MB and I will see what I can find.
In the interim, do you see a place where you can clear the bios, like a 3 post connector that has letters like CRLTC or similar and try clearing the bios

Don't you need a speaker hooked up to hear the beep. My last two rigs never beeped.
