Being a completely electrical device (SSD = Solid State Drive) means there's no moving parts. No spin up times, no seek time issues, nothing. Read/write speeds are in the same region as read/write speeds for standard RAM.
A big problem with them, though, is the limited write cycles that the solid state chips have. Hard drives last longer.

I don't know much about SSD drives. I just remember all the hype about the MacBook Air having one and how much battery life it was going to safe. The truth is that once users got their hands on them, there was not much battery power gained when choosing the SSD option.

Let me tell ya.... It uses less energy. That $#!@#%&# will almost shutdown during a short idle and then have to spin up and then spin down, spin up, spin down..... you get the point.
Anybody want an energy efficient hard drive?
My next one to replace this one will be a 150 or 300 gig WD 10,000 rpm that will use the crap out of electricity.
rant over..............
well DUH!! Jeff, why do you think they are "Green" drives? They save bunches of electricity!!!! You install a new "Green" drive and your machine sucks so much that you turn it off and go fishing.. tons of power saved!!!!
