the problem is i cannot remove the dvd drive from the drive bay to replace it. the drive does not slide foward or backward. on the side of the bay there appeare to be a keyhole. would i need a key to unlock the bays?

There should be 4 screws holding the drive in place and if not then you may have a plastic mechanism that will release when the slide button is pushed. The drive will then come out the front.

i remove the screws but the drive wont move. this is usually a 5 minute job. where is the plastic mechanism located?

Well, you probably don't have both screws and plastic at the same time. If there is a slider it would be in the center of each drive bay. Only other thing I can think of is your front bezel is blocking it and would have to be removed. Since you've done this before there's not much more I can say.

Sorry, I meant doing it before on a different case. I checked Tiger and the Systemax sites and there's not anything about how to change optical drives. The whole front might be removable if it's a snap type fit as it is on my case, check for some plastic or metal pins just on the inside edge of the case or screws.
I mean, they got it assembled somehow and I really doubt that the whole front escutcheon was riveted on, it just doesn't make any sense. There may be a cavity for you to put your fingers in at the bottom and carefully pull it out. You may have to squeeze the pins first with pliers while tugging gently on the same side and continue alternating sides until it's off.
