Bought a "Green" hard drive
Well, in my new quad system I purchased one of the 400 gig "Green" hard drives that is suppose to be energy efficient.
Let me tell ya.... It uses less energy. That $#!@#%&# will almost shutdown during a short idle and then have to spin up and then spin down, spin up, spin down..... you get the point.
Anybody want an energy efficient hard drive?
My next one to replace this one will be a 150 or 300 gig WD 10,000 rpm that will use the crap out of electricity.
rant over..............

Haha.. I know exactly what you mean.
I tried one of those new "Green" drives.
It was quickly replaced with two 150Gb raptors.

Jeez Jeff, so the drive does what it wants irregardless of OS settings? That's not 'green', it's just a PITA.

Jeff, isn't there a setting in the BIO's where you can disable the spin down on the drive or at least increase the time frame before the spin down occurs? Most of the hard drives usually have utilities that you can download from the manufacturers website to disable/change settings on these HDD features.
Just a thought...

I'm not sure about the BIO....
This is a brand new MD and my other three HD's do not spin down like that. My XP64 on a different HD works great.
I'm debating on the Raptor 150 for my christmas present
EDIT:
BTW Malhovic: It is nice to see you back.
