XP tip for Automatic Updates - temporarily disabled the dialog box

XP tip for Automatic Updates - temporarily disabled the dialog box

Might be old news, but I found it helpful just now.

If you ever install Updates for your PC, you probably know how pesky XP can be trying to get you to restart. If you're working or gaming, this is especially annoying. It'll pop right up over whatever else you're doing.

You CAN however shut that dialog off until your next reboot though. Just open the command prompt and type this in (be sure to use the quotes):

Code: Select all
net stop "automatic updates"

Wish I'd discovered this ages ago. The AU dialog boxes have driven me crazy over the years.

I use the 2nd option in method 2 here using gpedit. It's permanent.
