9600gt Vs. 8800gt

9600gt Vs. 8800gt

I have chhoosed out these two cards, the PALIT Geforce 9600GT 1GB GDDR3 Video Card
And I have found a deal on the Gigabyte GeForce 8800GT 512MB video card $140 overclocked at 700MHz w/ Neverwinter Nights II included for $140. Which of them should have better performance?

I'd say that they would possibly be on par with one another for most stuff. Just because the 8800 is the top card for the 8 series, but the 9 series is newer, although the 9600 is middle of the road. However, the extra memory in the 9600 would probably give it the edge when doing a lot of processing.

I actually think the 8800GT might still be a little better. I like my 9600 but I believe the benchmarks showed the 8800GT squeezing out a few more FPS... but when I purchased it the 8800 was also like $30 more and I figured it'd bottleneck.

The 8800GT is far superior to the 9600GT
8800GT has 112 stream processors where the 9600 has but 64.
They share the same core, the G92 GPU
Nvidias 9 series release was a joke after having released the 8800 GT and 8800 GTS with the same processor. The 8800GTS is the same card as the 9800GTX, they upped the voltage a little to get faster stock clock speeds but thats it. You can overclock the 8800GTS and get the same performance.
There is a new release on the Horizon that should be out before june is over that will show a significant performance increase. Thusfar its known as the GT200 core. The cards are reportedly going to retail in the $500 range but will top the current top performer but as much as 100%. FYI the best thing out is still the 8800 Ultra.
