I've used Ontrack East Recovery PRO in XP with good effect in the past. I see there hasn't been a version change for about 18 months as far as I can tell (development seems to have come to a stop and some of the site page links are broken), and it's not compatible with Vista. It cannot read a Vista drive partition even from XP if it's been formatted by Vista. I don't think it's a good idea to buy it because of that.

Another that I've seen recommended here is Active@ UNDELETE but I have not used it myself. Not exactly the type of software one can have a trial version of unfortunately, as most would do what they want and then never think of buying, so I think the trials only show the files but don't let one recover.

I haven't tried this myself but Recuva has gotten many folk out of trouble. Main thing is, don't write anything on your HDD's until you can get your stuff back.

Thanks for the reply guys, I'll give them a try. I use to use OnTrack Recovery, but your right Graham, it doesn't work on vista :( Recuva worked pretty good.
