Returning to XP from Vista due to an in-advertent overwrite of XP

Postby dutrieuxluc » Sun Mar 09, 2008 7:40 pm

Hello all.

I had a dual boot facility. O/S were XP and Vista. I wanted to repair the Windows Media Player on Vista, could find nothing on the internet and believed I'd remedy the situation by re-installing Vista (hoping to repair). Somehow it installed itself over my XP Op system. Now I have a problem as I'd like to get back to the systems I had before.

Seems this task is impossible. Any help?

Regards,
Luc

Welcome aboard dutrieuxluc, unfortunately in some dire circumstances. Try guide

EDIT: BTW, name your drive's partitions like XP and Vista and 'stuff'. I learned the same way you just have.:)

Do you have a windows.old folder in the old XP partition ?

If so, it should be possible to somehow restore your XP setup :yesnod:

Hi JabbaPapa,

Thank you for honouring me with a reply. Guess I had a windows.old folder but i tinkered with it too much trying in vain to get XP back. I think I've now corrupted that as well. At the moment I am quite prepared to loose all I had on XP and re-install everything from scratch but even that doesn't seem possible.

Hi augie,

Thanks for your kind replay as well. I'm going to try guide as you suggested and see where that goes.

Have a great day both of you.
