Is there a way that you can connect the printer directly to the router? Making it a network printer is usually the easiest way to make it work on the mac.

Check the manual and comeback with a brand name and model number. If you're lucky, the printer might be compatible with the Apple standard which means zero configuration on your Mac.

make sure that the printer is shared and also that file/printer sharing is enabled in vista's firewall.
