OK, I just got a laptop with Windows ME and it's incredibly slow. It's about the age where I'd normally just throw it in my graveyard, but it's the only laptop I have. So, I'm trying to think of some use for it. Is there a distro of Linux that is basically text-based and can start up in seconds, but also has the ability to do simple processes like word processing and the occasional game (like a bust-a-move clone or emulator), and possibly printing and internet?

I guess it doesn't have to be text based, but I want it to boot quickly and conserve the battery. I just think a text-based text editor, web browser, etc. are possible, and not loading a GUI would definitely reduce loading time and battery consumption.

Yeah, d*mn Small Linux is pretty small and not very CPU intensive. I've ran it inside windows before.

Hmmm... DSL looks awesome...trying to get it set up, but I've got a problem. I don't know how to format the disk correctly. When I do ls /dev/hd*, it lists every HDD imaginable so I don't know exactly which one it is. I usually use gparted, but that doesnt come with DSL and this laptop doesn't have an ethernet port for me to use... might you have an idea about this?
