I am making a new site and I am using some transparent pngs and IE6 doesn't support that right? And for my new site the transparent images need to be like that. Should I switch to gifs?

I downloaded and installed it on Windows 98SE when I was playing with Virtual PC a few weeks ago, but that doesn't count because it was just messing about. It sorta answers your question though, because I think most folk are now using XP and IE7.

I think you'll get more specific "web design" responses to your question in the Webmaster Domain & Code Room and I'll move your thread there unless there's a reason you want it in Windows Support & Discussion

I'm sure Kanaloa could tell you how many people access Pro on IE6 (I'm assuming it can tell the difference). But you could always put one of those disclaimers saying that it's optimized for ___ and ___ or whatever, so if people want to they know to update (or get them to switch to Firefox).

Yes I would put the optimized for disclaimer on there
Since IE7 is on windows update I'm sure the majority use it but businesses and those on limited connections could still be using IE6

IE7 is a major download from Windows update. I assume most users that use Windows and have a connection ( the group you are targeting ) to the Internet now have IE7 , no matter if the use XP or Windows 2000. There are some that still have windows 98 but they are a minority , I guess.

In my experience, there are still MANY people out there who have Automatic Updates switched off, might be using XP with either the out-of-the-box RTM, SP1, or SP2 versions, with no fixes or updates installed ; and may in fact be completely unaware that any such thing as IE7 even exists, and couldn't care less either way :yesnod:

Many companies are still using IE6, and IE7 is only listed as a regular update for Corp. licenses from what i've seen. There are still many, many people out there still using it though unfortunately :(

Many businesses have not moved to IE7 due to computability issues with intra web applications.

Correct, Research Machines (RM) Here in the UK have suggested to our Education facility that those who use it's Management system do not update to IE7 from IE6.
