I'm actually considering getting a new external HDD (One of those 400-500GB deals) for the storage/duplication.

Got my invite. I think this Home Server OS will be a little lacking for anyone that has ever used Windows Server 2003. I have Windows Server 2003 running as a home server at my house right now and I have a local domain set up too.

One of the positive aspects of a Home Server OS compared to Windows Server 2003, is that the clients can be any version of the Windows XP and Vista OSes, they do not have to be the professional versions.

I think I'm liking the sound of this freeNAS............. I have an OLD system w/3GB HDD that the RAM maxes out at 256MB............. looks like a decent candidate.......

Seems like this will run on a PIII system as long as it has 512 MB Ram at install and at least a 500 MHz CPU, from what I am reading.

Ok obviously the DVD is not bootable, do you have to install an OS prior to installing Home Server Beta??????????

No, in fact, the only way I've been able to install the WHS is to boot the CD media, at which time whatever drives you have that are PHYSICALLY connected (Except for external stuff) will be formatted and reconfigured to run with WHS
