I want to install xp for a dual boot, i followed the instructions on this forum exactly http://www.pro-networks.org/forum/about88231.html

but.........

when i boot with the xp pro cd in to install, i get an error

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected
to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is
correct. this may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic
or setup program.

setup cannot continue. to quite setup, press f3."

Welcome to PRO. Stop by the introductions forum and introduce yourself.

On your question: Your drives may be on a SCSI or SATA controller that the XP setup can not detect or does not have a native driver for.

When XP Setup starts you will see a msg to press F6 to load a third party driver. Try to find out if your PC needs a special driver for the drives, and load it through this.

Best of luck,

i have dv2200 serie and had the same problem.
its hard to do the F6 thing since most new laptops do not have floopy drive
i found this "HP dv8000t Reinstallation Guide" very helpful

if the moderator allowed the link is:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=62357

just remember to download all the drivers for XP first
try searching under dv9000 series if not available for dv9200
