Help!! Can't dual boot to XP and Vista (Resolved)

Postby tk1biglove » Thu Feb 22, 2007 2:23 am

Hi Guys

Where to start!

Well. Last week I installed Vista. Some games dont work so I partioned my Hard Drive and reinstalled XP Media Centre. I couldnt get Vista to boot as it went straight to XP. I downloaded Vistabootpro and it seemed easy enough. This gave me a choice of what OS to boot. Great (I thought). I had 2 choices. Vista or XP. I chose Vista. Booted up as normal. So I rebooted and chose XP.....nothing happened until I got a message saying windows\system32\winload.exe i missing or corrupt. Insert your xp cd and choose repair. I did....nothing happens! It asks for the OS to repair so I choose XP and it just goes to the D: prompt and nothing else!!

Is there anyway someone can help me simply get my PC to dualboot with a choice of XP or Vista? Or can someone please give me a step by step guide on how to get it working!

Im losing the will to live!!

OK

Correct me if I'm wrong. you had Vista
install XP
install VistaBootPro
You have Vista now but no XP.

1. How did you get your Vista back?
2. Can you supply us a screenshot of the Disk Manager

Wait a minute. Winload.exe is Windows Vista?

Running the Vista DVD and choosing a repair will repair this problem.

Hi

I used Vistabootpro to get back to Vista. But its sorted now. I clicked Run Diagnostic on the Vistabootpro screen and it removed XP and renamed it Earlier Windows Version. I rebooted and now I can access both OS!

Thanks anyway!!
