To ditto here a bit.......... The Spybot S&D teatimer has known issues and can practically shut down your system(s), so avoid using it.
Since you're running XP-SP2 and don't want to run ZA, try Sygate Firewall (As a software firewall); if your data is that important, then like NT50 says.......... don't overlook a dedicated hardware firewall solution
I'd suggest you check out this article about the built in Windows Firewall before deciding to stick with it

Before i make a commitment to go with Sygate Personal Firewall, your advice is solicited on one final issue:
Sometime back ISS X-Force Database identified a High Risk Vulnerability:
" Version 5.0 could allow a remote attacker to bypass the firewall and launch
undetected attacks against a vulnerable host by using a spoofed source IP
address of 127.0.0.1 or 127.0.0.0 "
Can anyone confirm that Versions 5.5271 or 5.6 included a fix; alternatively will the suggested
workaround - Block 127.0.0.1/127.0.0.0 - using "Advanced Rules" eliminate the risk. Many thanks 2 all.

This thing is diesel, it's a stateful firewall with lots of horsepower. I have a Juniper WAN at the moment and I couldn't be happier - router / vpn / firewall, it is very good and I am very happy with it at the moment.
