Hey guys i was fixing a guys computer when he and i both noticed that you can do anything on it now, but log in to myspace... well after being there for a couple of hours and running house calll i went home. all Im wondering is what could of caused the log in preoblem... virus? spyware? also im looking for a free antivirus and firewall... hook it up gents! my car rides on this guy being happy!

Hmmm... can you log into similar sites? I'm wondering if there is just a problem with the cookies or something like that that's making it think it's not logged in. Does it actually give any error message?

good thought, yes it does do that for every site... although Ive only done 2 sites Yahoo email and myspace. So I cleaned out the registry (regscrup xp) did a virus scan (house call) and used Cleanup. So what should i do or try next... when ever typed in user and pass the next page it goes to is as if you didnt have an internet connection. "cannot connect to site" in FF, or just the default error page in IE.... thats the only problem.

Check the hosts file and make sure it's not being blocked there. Not knowing what version of Windows it is, the hosts file should be located appropriately...

Windows 95/98/Me
c:\windows\hosts

Windows NT/2000/XP Pro
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Windows XP Home
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

xp home... what do i do with the host file, look at it through what? how do i edit the file, because i opened it with wordpad from my computer and it just said sample hosts...?

Sorry, I should have explained. You can edit it with wordpad or notepad, just be sure to save it without an extension. Below is a sample of what it probably looks like. If it contains no reference to MySpace, then it should be ok. The default will only have the one entry for the localhost.
