Remote assistance has been used sence windows 2000 and mst of us have herd of it but what is it. remote assistance is used for a user to help fix certian problums on one's pc remotly weahter it be at work helping your wife or 3 cities away helping your grandmother. it is pretty easy to set up and in the next few steps ill tell you how

First off, Right click on computer and select properies. On the left side Click on Advanced system properties. select the remote tab at the top and check the box under remote assistance. select apply and ok at the bottem.

click on start and then help and support. In help and support click on the "windows remote assistance" link

Next it will bring up a screen that allows you to set a password. this passowrd is only used for a maxumum of 6 hr's after connect and will only be used by the remote user (NOTE: you must fallow the windows password rules)

<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/jwestad/Remote03.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

After that you will be taken to a screen asking you to eather save the file or e-mail it using your defalt e-mail program in this case im using outlook 2003. the remote user should recive the e-mail within 5 min. the e-mail will look like this

download the attacked file and open it

<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/jwestad/Remote05.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

after opening the file you will be asked for the password you provided in the set up

<a href="http://photobucket.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v172/jwestad/Remote08.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>

if you fallowed these steps correctly then your end should resalt in something like this

You can also start a remote assistance session directly from Windows Live Messenger without having to save a file :yesnod:

It should be noted, that while Vista's Remote Assistance is much improved, there are still issues when trying to connect to/from computers which are behind NAT routers unless an IPv6 address is assigned and used, or unless the router has had port forwarding enabled for the remote assistance port - 3389 I believe.

i figured that most people dont use windows messenger but that works to. also tcp/ip v6 is not required because most router can only handel v4 so if you have upnp enabled it should work fine
