apache SSL woes.

gah, i have tried SOOOO many times to get SSL enabled on my server that i think i will go crazy if i dont get it working!!

i am useing ubuntu 6.06 server edition in LAMP mode

i have installed webmin to help with ocnfiguration

i can sucessfully set up the document path so that when the URL is typed in it will load the page, and the virtual server is listening on port 443

here is the error i get when trying to enable SSL in apache

Code: Select all
Failed to save SSL Options : Configuration verification failed :

Syntax error on line 402 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf:
Invalid command 'SSLEngine', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration

Changes have not been saved.

anyhelp would Be MUCH aprechiated!!!

EDIT: i have been playing arround with this problem...

it apears that, the option in webmin to load madules is not "sticking". that is, i click " Re-Configure Known Modules" and i am presented with a list of all the modules...

mod_ssl and mod_apachessl are both present, but they are both unchecked.

i check either or, clck aply, then restart te server to apply changes...
then go back to check "Re-Configure Known Modules" and BAM!
neither of them are checked.

how can i make the Mod_ssl or apachessl load at startup?
