mswinup.exe called a virus by norton. how to remove warning?

Postby sunchips » Sun Sep 17, 2006 2:29 pm

How do i tell norton to not give me a warning window telling me to remove the file. I have symantec corporate edition 10.1.4.4000. And I don't want it to not do a startup scan.

Thanks

on Symantec Corp:
open up the Symantec program by double clicking the shield in systray or through the Start/Programs,
from the title bar select Configure, then slect File System AutoProtect

in the middle or the right pane you should see Options, select Exclude, the Browse to find the file/files you want to exclude by using the Exclusions button. Then click OK

Isn't mswinup.exe Microsoft windows update?

And it wont remove it cause it either gets moved or deleted. I'll have to do a big fill HDD scan to kill it then possibly.

It sounded like a MS thing but alot of times viruses name themselves like OS elements so users think its a MS thing.

I've never seen it on my computer

I believe that it is a spware/virus file and usually comes with variations of these three files:

winsvcup.exe
winupsvc.exe
mswinup.exe

I wouldn't trust that it's a safe file. I'd make sure you get rid of it. If Windows needs it, windows update should be able to fix itself. However, if it re-creates itself, that could also mean that it's a virus. I'd at least quarantine it, and then try to make sure it stays gone. Then try running Windows Update and see if you run into any problems. If you google for mswinup.exe, you only get 4 results... if it was a windows task, there would probably be 50 pages worth of results explaining that. Since there are only 4 results, I'd assume that it's a virus or spyware. Junk it!

Deleted. Hopefully windows doesn't crash on me.

Thanks.

Would any one of you know if A = {null} and B= {null}

Then A is an element of B, A is a subset of B and P(A) is a subset of B?
P being the power set of A. lol
