"Horror Stories" of rampant viruses...
Hi everybody,
I was over at Download.com reading about "horror stories" people have had with viruses instantly invading their PC and opening 200 IE windows, and then having to system restore or even take more drastic measures to get thier system to normal.
When you're looking at these, take a note of what browser they are using and how many Antivirus / Spyware programs they need

P.S. This is more of a "general" discussion topic rather than "Windows Support" bit I thought this was the best place to put it

LOL, 200 Windows opening! Sounds like they go to sites they or anyone else shouldn't. I use the free AVG, ZA and Spybot's Teatimer which locks the registry, and I have had zero problems for several years. I remember getting a 'farm' of windows even when I was on dialup to boot and a n00b with XP. I learned real quick of what to do!
I'll move this to the Security Center forum as this is where it belongs.
BTW, I wouldn't touch downloads.com as they don't check their SW that has been submitted AFAIK.

Lol, I remember the days of 56K and IE on Windows XP. Let's just say it isn't a pretty sight. When I used to use IE on a regular basis, It was a weekley occurance to have something opening up over 20 windows of IE on occasion.
I now use Firefox, Spybot S&D, and AVG free. I browse almost ANY website I want without a worry of getting spyware... and let me tell you, i don't have to. I hadn't scanned my computer with AVG in over 6 months and I still didn't have any viruses! I scan my PC with Spybot about every month and the most spyware I ever have are a bunch of "tracking cookies".
The strange thing is, It seems dialup is way more vulnerable than High-speed internet. One day my comcast cable internet was out, so I tried to browse the net temporarily on dialup (using Firefox) and when I was done with that painfully slow experience, I had the same about of spyware I'd normally get in an entire year.
Maybe it's because I'm behind a router now, but I think it's a big fat un-true rumor that high-speed internet is more vulnerable than dialup.
