paypal spoof

paypal spoof

Postby Xstream » Sat Jun 03, 2006 12:22 am

you know, I'm not even mad about this, just annoyed. My daughter wanted to sell her ps2 on ebay and go back to the gamecube. So we posted it with a "buy it now" price of $300 ( it has 3 wireless controllers, 16 games, eye toy, steering wheel. etc ). It was immediately "bought" by someone with 0 feedback that had just joined that day.
I was suspicious. The Auction is paypal only.
I then got an email from this person wanting to send me a check. I replied "no". I then got an email that he would paypal me the money, but wanted it sent to his graandson in Nigeria, he would have fedEx come pick it up and he would pay all shipping.
I thought " fishy, but if he pays with paypal and pays all shipping, alright".
I then got an email from him saying he had paid with paypal and that as soon as I got confirmation, would I send him my address so tha fedex could come and get it.
Now I knew he was phoney, paypal would have given him my address in the invoice. So I checked my paypal balence, no money.
Then I checked my junk mail filter, and it was there, a nice FAKE email from PAYPAL, with a yahoo.com return address in the message header.

You've got cash!

Dear Jim West,

Mr Frank Billy, just sent you money with PayPal.

LOL, I'd like to hunt these idiots down. What you should do, is send him an empty box, it will only cost you a few bucks, then wait a few days and start threatening him and demanding your money.

did you ever see posts of where people try and get as much out of these guys as possible? They find one of them, get them to come pick stuff up from FedEx or UPS and it ends up being a box of junk just to make it really heavy. The guy in Nigeria or where ever they may be, then ends up paying a huge bill for a box of crap. You should have asked for a FedEx account number to have it billed to, take it to a FedEx shipping location, and then mail out a box of rocks to them.

I know what to do. Take a box and put a spring loaded boxing glove inside. When the crook opens the box, he gets punced in the face  He deserves that x 100 :whistle

These guys are getting more and more dangerous. There must be many buyers out there who would fall for this scam. :x

I would also report the Yahoo! address that the email was sent from and Yahoo! will likely remove their account as well.
