NOD32 Rankings

Postby Absolute-Zero » Mon Feb 20, 2006 9:18 am

Just another little note. Symanec's response times when upgrading Virus Signatures leaves a LOT to be desired.

As you can see by the graph below, it took them nearly a day and a half to release an update containing the signatures for the Nyxem.E (Karma Sutra) virus. Not good at all!

NOD32 stopped it as soon as it appeared due to it's advanced heuristic scanning.

I'm stunned by the reply guys, I guess my friend wont talk about Norton anymore  you guys have exactly what I wanted to do because he was thinking that it was only my opinion that NOD32 was good but I should say not anymore. If you are at PROnet, NOD32 is the way to go lol not really it goes for everyone who wants the best protection out there.

There is only one downfall to NOD...... It is good but also bad.
I service a law firm and I have NOD and Spysweeper corporate edition on Win server 2003. Everytime Spysweeper does a major update, NOD catches the newer file and will not let it run. So everytime they update I have to swing by the office and let NOD bypass that one file. Usually NOD releases a update withing a day to take care of the problem. Sometimes I tell theh lawyers to be patient and NOD will release an update before the day has ended.
At least NOD is catching a newer file but Spysweeper starts to error out

That site is famous for it's rankings that don't use independent testing for their results. They rely on advertisements and do no actual testing. On several sites that do nothing but test "in the wild" viri, Bitdefender, their number one, is not that good.

Sorry I totally disagree with you there. Where have you got proof to say that BD is not that good, as far as I'm concerned BD is an excellent antivirus and its detection and heuristics is very good. Infact alot have ranked its detection/heuristics close to that of NOD32 and KAV.

To start with, I'll accept no reviews from a site that accepts advertisements for products they test. While they list the VB100% awards, they don't go too deply into these rankings. If you'll look at the details of the 100% awards, you'll see that NOD32 got a 5 out of 5, while BD only got 3 out of 5 Operatings systems.
BitDefenders total score was 10 Success / 6 Failure / 28 No Entry

Bit Defender won't even submit their product for some of the tests. If you want to get the full story on the awards, then go to the source, not a whitewashed 2nd hand report.

nicksthegreat wrote:ok guys I will tell you the real reason why I put this post up,

My friend always uses Norton and is praising about it all the time and reccommending other not so frequent and less computer literate users to to try Norton.

His explanation is its flawless and that its gona be the same for everybody out there.

I have explained to him how NOD32 has worked for me in the past but there is not a reputable or known award that it has.

I tried pcworld's ranking and they has Bit defender as their Number 1, and NOD32 wasnt even in the list.

I was looking for a more stable answer supporting NOD32 over Norton.

Cheers for the posts guys but these links again were at the website and ofcourse every website is will say nothing but good about their product

1. Obviosly your friend hasnt' got the slightest clue about AV software I
really suggest that h/she go out and do some research. How can any
body compare Nortons against NOD32 sorry there is no comparison.

2. Flawless in what way ? Being a total hungry hog, detection rate better
than NOD32. C'mon I've even heard that the free version of Avast
is better than Nortons. Define to me the word Flawless.

3. Nonsense absolute garbage once again we are too lazy to research.
NOD32 is the only AV out there that has won MORE awards than any
other and these tests have been conducted and confirmed by the VB.
The VB is an independent testing lab and had been proven to provide
the most thorough testing of any independent lab out there. Def far
more than what Nortons has and I can rest assure that.

4. What are PC world just a magazine. Stop always being a sucker for
what others write. Magazines are magazines and they will also give
different feedback and opinions no matter what. I also read in one issue
of PC Worlds where they ranked 2/5 stars for NOD32's trojan detection.
What utter crap, NOD32's trojan detection is getting better and better
by the day, and though its purely and AV software and not an anti
trojan software, its detection rate for Trojans is better than alot of anti
trojan software out there.

5. If you want a more stable answer than you got it here:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=16

And do you want to fine tune your NOD32 like a brand new V12 Ferrari well look here:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=37509

At the end of the day do your self a big favour. Stick with the best out there and I'm sure you know what I'm referring to and let your friend stick with Nortons. Lets see whose PC will be more vulnerable and slower as well.

Bingo..........................................

The Real stats say it all. But you will not see a company that uses advertising for $$$ post NOD at the top due to Eset refuses to "Market" like Norton and McAfee do. Eset depends on company like mine to seel their software...................

I REFUSE to sell Norton, McAfee or any other AV program through my company. If a customer tells me they want Norton or any other program I tell them to go to Best Buy or some place that sells the boxed product. I will not install it on the customers system.
