Avalanche of spam with worm in attachments

Avalanche of spam with worm in attachments

Postby j8k3sp00n » Sat Nov 26, 2005 5:17 pm

Hi,

I looked and no one seems to have reported that there is a storm of spam email, each of which has an attachment containing a worm. I have gotten at least 50 in the last 7 days.

They typically have provocative subjects and sources like the CIA, FBI, etc. and say things like you've been logged as having visited some suspicious web sites.

I managed to get a few of them past the SBCGlobal malware scanner, but most carry a message from SBC saying that the attachment was removed and quarantined. When I tried to open the attachment in one that survived SBC, my virus scanner, AVG Free, nailed it and quarantined it.

I don't remember the name of the worm, but if I encounter it again, I'll come back and include it here in case anyone cares.

Be sure your virus scanner is working before you open an attachment and only open those from people you trust(you think you trust).

Just received one of these worm-virus laden emails this morning.................... of course, my AV program detected and deleted it, so no big deal, but this is the first occurrence for me in probably about a year, at least for ISP email. My yahoo email probably gets tons of the shiite, but is likely redirected to the junk/bulk folder................. lol
