Code request Thread

Postby gorbachev » Thu Aug 05, 2004 5:20 pm

Fortunately I don't meet up with many W3C employees at the bar, so if they are unhappy with my simple, more efficient coding...they know where they can stick it right? Now I am not trying to be offensive...I have just arrived at this forum a day ago and thats the last thing I want to do.

I was merely attempting to help someone constructively.

i say CSS is easier and has more options for customizing, here's what i used

Code: Select all
body {
   background-image: url(wallpapers/13.jpg);
   background-attachment: fixed;
}

with the appropriate tags of course, but this was in the middle of the style tags so i didn't want to get them with it.

You can still use CSS for other customisation if you use the bgproperties tag.

I won't be replying for a while going offline, cya.

Take the admin away, and your method is still not valid. While your technique may work in a percentage of cases, overall the technique used is not standard.

As an "Admin," thank you for that. That is what this place is all about.

The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable PI can be given that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant. This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change.

i could post the whole style sheet if you want to see what all is done on my homepage with CSS, but i don't want to take up a lot of space. I do thank you for trying to help though. here is my one style sheet if you want to have a look: click here that one is relatively simple at this point but it might get more complex eventually as i have seen some that are much larger.

Gorbachov as you say, you have only joined our forum a couple of days ago. Weaver is a highly respected Administrator on PROneTworks, and has proved his ability here over a long period of time. He hasn't set out to undermine you, but on the contrary give you a plausible alternative in a professional manner to your code. We do not expect derogatory comments to our staff members who are only trying to help you, and may i remind you that if you read our rules when you joined, you will note that no personal insults of any nature will be tolerated here. Please take the goodwill that Weaver is offering you in the context that's meant, and as time goes by if you wish to commit yourself to our forums, you will find that we are a helpful and friendly bunch, and we expect the same reciprocal gesture from our membership.
