What files hold the XP Pro registry hives?

I'm trying to automate a few registry tweaks into a small Liberty Basic app.

I have a 'disposable' installation for testing this.

In XP Pro my registy hives are located in windows\system32\config as files that don't have a file extension, but they are unavaliable for editing (by using wordpad or similar) without using regedit or writing to the registy from a program like vb6 or a scripted file.

Then don't try to do it "manually." Use the native Win32 API's for automated registry changes, it will be much easier than learning the structure of the registry, parsing, and changing.

The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable PI can be given that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant. This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change.
