Hardware safety and digital signing
To ensure your new system is as reliable as possible, make sure you use digitally signed drivers.
Many of you are experienced enough to know this, but for newbies, read on.
If you're connecting hardware add-ons to your new PC, like a Web cam for example, they'll need software called 'drivers' for making them work. For maximum reliability, you should make sure that any driver you install is 'digitally signed' for Windows XP. This is Microsoft's official quality stamp, and Windows itself will let you know if a driver isn't signed during the installation process. If this is the case, check online at the manufacturer's Web site for a newer version of the driver than the one that came in the box.
