Alphora's Dataphor has been in the works for several years now. It is in the final stages of Version 2.0 beta.

Dataphor is written in C#. It combines the power of a business rules engine, the automation of a meta-data repository, and the flexibility of a RAD environment. This is not code generation. It's much more than that.

After working with Dataphor and the technical staff at Alphora for the better part of a year, I'm impressed. Not only do they understand developer requirements and produce a toolset which meets those requirements, they do so with integrity. These folks know their craft and are uppin' the anty in the area of business software development. Dataphor is allowing us to stay focused on the bigger picture -- the what, not the how.

Here's their contact information:

My contact there who is in charge of developer support is Brandon Fackrell.

Here are a couple excerpts from the website and the dataphor user guide:

"[Dataphor] allows developers to focus on the creation of the core data model and underlying process logic. Based on the given data model, Dataphor dynamically derives user interfaces and enforces business rules..."

"Application development in the software industry is a complex and multi-faceted problem. Software architects and engineers are faced with a multitude of issues ranging from performance and scalability to security and usability. Over the years, more and more of these issues have been resolved generally by implementing the solutions in server layer software. With each layer of automation, application development becomes more and more declarative, and less and less procedural. In other words, the developer simply states what is to be done, not how it should be accomplished. "

"Dataphor represents a next step in that evolution from procedural to declarative development. The product is designed from the ground up to be a declarative development environment. "

"The Dataphor Platform is largely based on the concepts portrayed in The Third Manifesto: Foundation for Future Database Systems by C. J. Date and Hugh Darwen. The book is the culmination of thirty years of reasearch and development in the relational model, and brings together in one volume the current state of the art in relational theory."
