EPOX MAINBOARD

epox mainboard 8K9A9I
socket-462 w/ 333mhz fsb
3dimm w/ddr-400,
1agp-8x, 5pci,usb2.0
ata 133.100mbe lan
atx www.epox.com

this is specs of my mainboard, this board has a hardware overheat protection, which shots the system down whenever cpu temp reachs 120f degree. since it is hardware protection i cannot make any changes to it.

this so called hardware protection is becoming very frustrating, it shots the system down at startup, pushing the button to start up my system and it shots itself down, and would take sometimes another fifteen minutes to start again.

if this happens the system would loose power, and will never regain power until a power switch behind the system is switched off and on after awhile. if you are still following me, you can imagine how long it will take to start up this system. whenever it starts there is no other problem.

the system temp has never go above 100f, it is not like heat thing. why i am telling this story is that i am becoming fedup with this seven months old board.

and asking for your opinion, since i am only thinking of replacing it which would make it fourth boards in seven months.

I hope I'm understanding this right but can you disable that option in the BIOS?

Is it still under warranty too? I'd contact Epox and see what they have to say before replacing it.

You could disable hardware protection in BIOS. I'm with dlt in this. Get a replace from Epox.

there is no option to disable it from BIOS, i have gone through every settings in bios and the manual has nothing on how to make any changes through bios.

Oh...I just looked at mine, it's an Abit board with Award BIOS and under pc health is the option for CPU protect.

What about contacting the manufacturer? I guess I'm too cheap to replace it without seeing if they could do anything first.

Are you absolutely sure it's the thermal protection shutting it down? It could be something else such as bad ram. I would try checking all the connections and cards and also make sure the motherboard isn't grounded on the chasis anywhere.

this happens sometimes even when starting up for the first time.

according to epox, if it happens removing power plug or switching off main switch behind the casing would solve the problem. the problem is that sometimes it does not restart immediately.

bell1, i use to think it was bad connection, but from what i gathered from epox it is normal. what worries me though, is that it takes sometime to start whenever it happens.

i have even flashed the bios today, but there is no changes as far as this problem is concerned
