homepage hijacked
my wifes uncle in FL. has has his homepage hijacked, I told him how to set it to google and it didnt change. I told him to get CWshredder and it didnt help. He sent me the url of the hijacked page as an attachment, Zone alarm will only let me view it in notepad. it shows this..
BASEURL=http://www.google.com/
[InternetShortcut]
URL=http://www.google.com/
Modified=50B24127BBFFC301E8
any clues? thanks, Jim
He should run Hijack This It's about 3/4 down on the page. What you pasted makes no sense to me. I think he's the one who is not too savvy, then on that same page top left, there is a free spyware scanner. also, to reduce the chance of future hijacks, tell him to get Spyware Blaster and make sure to update first. Everything's on the same page. Here'sa good tutorial on hijacking.

BTW, AdAware does a pretty good job now on hijacks. it is also easy to setup, use and update. this may be the ticket.

Spybot Search & Destroy fixed this on my Dad's PC once.

Man that stinks...
I would install ZoneAlarm if its not already and run the SpyBots like John said. Hopefully that will help...
If you have Win XP Pro I would also add the personal firewall.

Hijack This is a good program. I run it once a day and I clean out about 5-10 hijacks everytime.

Where do you surf You must mean something else than just hijacking.
