Virus Causing Havoc

Postby djdabaer » Tue Jan 27, 2004 6:56 pm

I have been monitoring our logs today of my mail server for all of the emails we host, over 300 domains. We normally catch about 1000-2000 viruses a month, today alone, since 8am EST, We have caught over 10,000 emails with some variation of this virus. BE CAREFUL, and BE SAFE. ITS NO JOKE.

Guardian,

Anything I can assist ya with over there? I am more than happy to if neccesary. Upate, we hit the 16,000 mark on total emails snagged on our IMAIL server. That also doesnt include the few buggers that we missed. We pride ourselves in scrubbing around 99.5% of viruses. Unfortunately, if we caught 16,000 today, that means atleast 80 got through. er... i dunno how many, my logic is fuzzy today. TOOOO MANY LOG FILES. Lets just pray for our clients who dont have virus scan. :(

Not much I can do really. CNN reported that 1 out of every 12 emails are the W32.Novarg.A@mm virus. No wonder I've been getting so many today. Most of the extension types my firewall blocks. However, some of the txt files and scr extension are enabled. We use those types in our office. So even though our Norton Antivirus is checking them. So no one is getting infected with the virus rather just bombarded with Symantec emails saying viruses were found. Hopefully things will slow down by tomorrow I hope.
