I recently attempted to assist a friend with their computer which uses windows xp. I ran anti-viruses on it and removed viruses on the pc, but this damaged the registry and made error messages pop up constantly. Next i tried to load an older version of Windows xp and ran the repair option. this seems to have fixed the registry problems but now it wants a code for the version of windows, apparently not the same version now as the one that was on the pc, as i tried to enter that code but it won't accept it. Also, now it will not access the internet and i cannot figure out why. Please is there any way to recover the version of windows xp that was on the pc?

Yes, as "SmokeYou" said, you should back up all important data and reinstall Windows XP again. Then install the neccessary Drivers, and copy back your data, and away you go!
