PC vs PS3 and XBOX 360

Postby xxsonyboy4lfexx on Mon Jul 23, 2007 8:08 am

How powerful are the ps3 and 360 compared to the pc? And I mean like Quad Core with a 8800 ultra. I know that those consoles are powerful but what are their pc equivalent parts? Cause pc stuff is so expensive but then again i dont think ps3 can take Crysis. :D

Well, I wouldn't doubt that the PS3 can run Crysis. I'd probably guess that the PS3 has the graphical capabilities of an 8800. As for the CPU, the PS3 has 8 usable cores, which smoke any modern PC processor. So really, for the money the PS3 would definitely perform better than a $600 PC, but then it has a limited game library and isn't nearly as customizable as a PC. So me, I'd keep saving up for a PC until the one I had just can't run what I want it to.

You must be talking about a 8800 with 768 MB DDR3 ram to be comparing it price wise to a PS3 which has 256 MB DDR3 video Ram at 700 MHz and 256 MB XDR main Ram at 3.2 GHz
You can get a 8800 with 320 MB DDR3 Ram for around $300

But the ps3 has 8 cores, pc only has 4 and that's really expensive. And that 8800 for 300 is only half the price of the ps3 without the cpu and BLUERAY! ITS UNFAIR!

Sony is also losing tons of money on it :-/ But the fact that it was mass produced did help costs a little. And it's not like they just put an 8800 in a PS3, all the parts were specifically manufactured to be used inside this one game console. It's just comparable to an 8800.

It just seems that pc stuff is so much more expensive and doesn't want to last as long.(many upgrades)

well if you think of it, none of this stuff going to last that long... in 2 years or less it'll be like buying a pentium 3... Just go with what you think is reasonable ( i wouldnt recommend the ps3 just because its hell for developers to produce a lot of games) your going to end up having a lot more power at your hands with a pc vs a ps3 or xbox.

but the decision is yours!

My choice is console; there is such a simplicity in inserting a disc, and then, within (more or less) the next two minutes playing a game...

I recently got my brother for his birthday, expansion packs for a game called Elder Scrolls of Oblivion; but there was so much trouble installing it, that it took the techies at software company about 2 weeks to sort the problem out. That's why, for me, the console gaming is easy. You don't have to constantly check if your system specifications are high enough for a new game...you simply match up the title with your console and play away to glory;

However I do want to point out, that as a PC gamer myself, I have found it nice to see that many PC games that are also available on consoles, tend to be cheaper on PC's. Sports game especially (I'm an avid sports gamer). So I do often buy games for the PC as a result. Nontheless, if prices were always the same for both the PC and console, then I'd head towards the console 9 times out of 10 (the exception being the flare PC games have for strategy games, that often cannot be played upon a console with a control for they require the use of a mouse)
