Where did you get the idea that PS3 has 8 cores? It has 7 SPEs and only 6 are available for the developers to play with. This is not even close to 8 cores. It's not even comparable to a multi-core CPU, SPEs are more like hyperthreading then multi-core since an SPE cannot directly access system memory, and there are only 6 available, not 8 (the 7th is reserved for OS and security).
There is no way the RSX 'Reality Synthesizer' can be considered on the same field as the 8800. Without getting technical, Oblivion on the PS3 looks good, but on PC it's amazing. The 8800 is already better then the PS3, at least on game development side of it. Even if PS3's hardware was on-par with PC, PC games are just written to look better. Developers can take more advantage of PC hardware. With PC at its current state, 4 cores kick the crap out of 6 SPEs. Even on paper the CELL can just perform with today
