outlook express won't start

Postby Xstream on Tue Aug 29, 2006 4:24 pm

For some unknown reason, Outlook express won't start today. Worked fine yesterday. I tried SFC with no luck, I tried sys restore with no luck. I ran in safe mode and it started fine.
I tried removing all the .dbx files and had no luck using these instructions...
http://www.insideoe.com/problems/errors.htm
anyway, All I get when I try to start it, is
"Outlook Express has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I also tried to reinstall OE by reinstalling I.E. but all thats available for download is I.E. 6 sp1 and I'm running sp2 so it won't let me install an earlier version.
I don't want I.E.7

Any ideas?

Jim...check out the #2 solution on this page ...I've used it a couple of times and it has worked! Of course, there have been a couple of other times that it HASN'T worked too...but copy/paste your dbx and wab files somewhere(so you can put them back if it works!!) and give it a shot!

thanks, tried that, no luck,
I ended up trying a repair install and it got stuck for 12 hours.
I had to reformat and reinstall, just got it going again, screwed the mbr up and lost vista.
what a day.
