old XP + new Windows 7 + Raid 0

Postby oainless » Sun Feb 21, 2010 1:57 am

Ok so here is my problem.
I ran 2 Velociraptors 300 gigs in dual boot Vista on one and XP on second. I used Vista boot Pro to do the set up during install.

So i rebuild a new super system.

Add another HD of same to make a Raid 0 with 2 of the HDs in Windows 7 (new install) and then try to add the other HD that had XP installed already.

When booting it only shows the Raid 0 in Windows 7. BIOS will not allow me to set XP hd as a boot hd, but does show it is there on a SATA cable.
When 7 is loaded, I get these drives showing up in "My Computer"
the Raid 0 shows up as C drive
the XP HD shows up as D drive

When I try to use Dual Boot Pro it only shows the Windows 7 raid drive.

Could anyone please assist me with this problem???????

Are you wanting to add all three drives to the RAID0 array or are you keeping the third drive as non-RAID?

3rd drive is non raid. I want it totally separate. I have CAD software that won't run on Windows 7. I do CAD design for a living so need this.

Where i am getting confused is it is says healthy primary partician when checking it in disk management. And it ran fine before. I just had it not in use for a month while I built this new system. I can not understand why it does not show up in boot pro and why it will not let me boot it in bios either.

Do you have a small 100 MB hidden partition (no drive letter allocated) tagged (System Reserved) in Disk Management?

OK. You need to allocate a drive letter to unhide it from your XP drive. Do this in Disk Management by right clicking the drive and then select "Change drive letter and path" and then accept the first drive you are offered or any other that you know for sure is not already in use. DO NOT format when that option is offered to you.

Reboot and then copy and paste ntldr, NTDETECT.COM and boot.ini from the root of your XP drive to the small (System) partition. Check that your boot.ini still points to the correct drive and partition (if you post your boot.ini and a screenshot of your disk management we can help with that). Once that is done, you should be able to add a valid Legacy OS entry on the operating systems page of DualBootPRO.

ok, I am at a total loss. I have tried it all and now here is where I am.
I have the boot seeing the drive now after I manually entered it in the operating system page of boot Loader Pro but it will not boot and ask for my diskto be inserted. I can not reinstall this system because it is 32 bit Xp and I would have to dissassemble my entire cooling system and remove most of the parts in my tower to get to it.
I can not find any of the 3 FiLES I was told to copy and paste. I have included screen shoots of the 3 drives. C drive -Windows 7 64 bit, D drive - XP 32 bit, M drive is the small 100 mb one we mentioned before.
Please I am going crazy. All of my Folders are on the desktop in the D drive for my work and livlihood. I hav e followed all of the instructions and was running this same drive as it is on the system before in a dual boot with Windows 7 64 bit and I set it up with Vista Dual boot Pro.
